Fall of Varrock

Castle Wars

From the Fall of Varrock Wiki - The classic capture-the-flag team war on the real Castle Wars arena. Pick Saradomin or Zamorak at the lobby portals (or let Guthix balance you), steal the enemy standard off their keep roof, and run it home to score. Bots fill both armies to 25-a-side, so there's always a full war.

Castle Wars is the classic team war, fought on the real Castle Wars arena: Saradomin's

castle in the south-east, Zamorak's in the north-west, and a battlefield in between. Steal the

enemy's standard (their flag) off the top of their keep, carry it across the field, and touch

it to your own standard to score. Most captures when the horn sounds after 20 minutes wins.

You never fight short-handed here: both armies are filled to 10 a side with soldiers (bots).

One real player is enough to start a war — every human who joins mid-game simply takes a

soldier's place, so it's always a full battle.

Getting in

Use ::cw (or walk to the Castle Wars lobby) and step through a god portal:

  • Saradomin portal — fight in blue for Saradomin.
  • Zamorak portal — fight in red for Zamorak.
  • Guthix portal — let the balance decide; you're sent to whichever side needs you.

The portal drops you into your team's underground waiting room, just like the original —

a countdown to the next war shows on screen above your chatbox (and during the war it shows

the time remaining and the live score). The war begins about a minute after the first soldier

queues; the exit portal in the waiting room takes you back to the lobby if you change your

mind. If a war is already raging, a lobby portal throws you straight into the fight — a

filler soldier steps aside for you.

Your own gear comes with you (deaths are safe), but your cape is set aside and you wear your

team's hooded cloak until the war ends. It's returned when you leave, even after a crash.

How the war works

1. You spawn in your castle's spawn room (keep level 1). Grab bandages from the tables —

they heal and restore run energy. Pass through your team's energy barrier to head out.

The barrier only lets your own team through.

2. Cross the field — or go under it. The enemy standard flies at the top of their keep.

The direct route is through their front gates (open them — or fight through while your

soldiers hold the line). The sneaky route is the tunnels: mid-field trapdoors drop you

into the passages under the battlefield, surfacing behind the enemy front line. Each

castle also has a side cave ladder down, and the deeper tunnels can be mined open

through the rubble.

3. Capture the standard. Click it to seize it. The banner takes both hands (your weapon and

shield go to your pack — keep two inventory spaces free), so your team must cover your escape.

4. Run it home. Touch your own standard with the enemy banner to score. Every capture

pays the capturer a bonus on the spot.

5. Guard your own flag. If a flag carrier is killed, the standard falls where they died:

the owning team clicks it to return it home instantly; the attackers click it to pick it

up and keep running.

Dying is completely safe — you keep everything and respawn in your spawn room a moment later.

Fallen soldiers (bots) rejoin the lines after a short delay, so the armies stay at full strength

all war long.

Rewards

Everything pays in coins:

ResultPayout
Flag capture (to the capturer)25,000
Win50,000
Draw20,000
Loss10,000

The lobby scoreboard tracks the current war, the last result, and your career wins and

captures.

Tips

  • Two free inventory slots before you go flag-running — the banner forces your weapon and

shield into your pack.

  • Bandages are war supplies: they only work inside the arena, so stock up from the tables in

the castle, not for the bank.

  • Your soldiers fight a real war: defenders hold the courtyard, return your dropped standard

and hunt down enemy flag carriers; assault squads breach the enemy gates; flankers take the

tunnels and surface behind the line — and each side fields a flag runner who will climb

the keep, steal the standard and score it. Watch your own flag: the enemy's runner is coming.

  • Head-on pushes stall against a defended gate. Take the tunnels and pop up behind the line —

that's how wars get won.

  • Want out mid-war? The portal in your spawn room returns you to the lobby (your cape comes

back at the door).
