Death & item protection
From the Fall of Varrock Wiki - OSRS keep-3 rules apply everywhere — what you keep, where your stuff goes, and which content is safe.
Death works like real OSRS, everywhere — not just the wilderness. Dying in town, on a road, or to a monster costs you items under the same rules as a PvP death.
What you keep
| Status | Items kept |
|---|---|
| Unskulled | 3 most valuable |
| Unskulled + Protect Item prayer | 4 |
| Skulled | 0 |
| Skulled + Protect Item | 1 |
Untradeables are always kept and don't use up a slot. Check exactly what you'd keep and lose right now — including your total risk value — with ::kod (Items Kept on Death).
Where your items go
- Killed by a player in the wilderness — your loot seals into a loot key owned by your killer.
- Died anywhere else (monsters, roads, bot ambushes outside the wild) — your items drop into a reclaim pile on your death tile that only you can see for ~15 minutes. Get back there and pick your things up. After that grace period the pile turns public for a few minutes, then despawns.
Safe deaths
Some content never drops items on death:
- The Fight Cave wave arena (
::arena) - The Zulrah shrine (
::zulrah) - Instanced content (Wizard Tower runs, raid instances)
Everywhere else, assume full death rules apply — including your unclaimed loot keys, which are always destroyed on death regardless of protection.
