Fall of Varrock

Recruit Trials - your first hour

From the Fall of Varrock Wiki - The four-step onboarding quest every new player gets, plus the starter kit and bank stake.

Every new account starts the Recruit Trials automatically - a four-step chain that walks you through the War loop and pays out a full steel kit. Hint arrows point the way and each step advances on its own when you complete it.

What you start with

  • Inventory: 10 bread, 5 shrimps, a spare bronze scimitar, tinderbox, bronze pickaxe, bronze axe - and a bronze scimitar already equipped so you spawn armed.
  • Bank: 10,000 gp, 50 trout, 25 salmon, 5 attack potions, 5 strength potions, 3 prayer potions, and a Book of Commands.

The four trials

  1. FIGHT - Kill 5 goblins at the frontier (the back woods near the gate). Reward: 10,000 gp + a full bronze kit (helm, body, legs, shield).
  2. RANK - Report to the Sergeant, then claim your first rank from Duke Horacio in the castle. Reward: Steel full helm.
  3. SLAY - Take a war-contract from Vannaka and clear the rats in the castle. Reward: Steel platebody, plus a pickaxe and hammer for what's next.
  4. SUPPLY - Complete the Mire skilling loop: mine copper and tin in The Mire (south-east of the castle), smelt a bronze bar at the furnace, smith a bronze dagger at the anvil, and hand the dagger to the Quartermaster in the Mire crypt. Reward: 50 War Effort + steel scimitar, platelegs and kiteshield.

By the end you've touched all three pillars - combat, rank, and supply - and you're wearing full steel.

What comes after

The War-Prep chain picks up where the trials end and leads to raid access: Vannaka drills you to Prayer 37 (Protect from Magic) at the Lumbridge church altar (handing you 28 dragon bones for it, with more if you run dry), gears you with a mystic fire staff, mystic robes, a full rune stock and 100 noted prayer potions, then marks the way to the Void Knight at the Wizard Tower bridge - take the Archmage's grimoire and report back to Vannaka - which permanently unlocks the Ancient, Lunar and Arceuus spellbooks. See Wizard Tower and Unlocking the magic books.
