The Forge — rune to dragon

From the Fall of Varrock Wiki - Upgrade rune gear into dragon with runite bars, coins and Smithing levels.

The Forge is an experimental anvil in the Mire working yard where smiths turn rune gear into dragon gear — the server's marquee coin-and-materials sink, and the reason runite bars matter at endgame.

How to use it

Bring a hammer, the rune item, the runite bars and the fee, then use the rune piece on the Forge:

UpgradeSmithingRunite barsFee
Rune scimitar → Dragon scimitar6030500,000 gp
Rune med helm → Dragon med helm6030400,000 gp
Rune full helm → Dragon full helm6550800,000 gp
Rune kiteshield → Dragon kiteshield70701,500,000 gp
Rune platelegs → Dragon platelegs70801,500,000 gp
Rune platebody → Dragon platebody751002,500,000 gp

Every bar consumed grants 50 Smithing XP, so a platebody upgrade is 5,000 XP on top of the gear.

Remember the armour gate

Forging dragon armour doesn't mean you can wear it — dragon requires the Lord title (2,000,000 gp rank). See Titles & citizenship. Plenty of smiths forge for profit and sell to Lords instead.

Where the bars come from

Runite ore is in the castle cellar mine and Mire collection grounds (Mining 85); each runite bar needs 8 coal (Smithing 85, or Superheat Item). The Trading Post also stocks adamantite bars and coal if you'd rather buy your way in — see Trading Post & the market.
