Wilderness loot keys
Kill a player in the wilderness and their lost items don't hit the ground — they're sealed into a loot key placed in your inventory. Bring it home to cash in.
How keys work
- Each key is a single inventory item labelled with the victim's name. Check a key to see its sealed contents in chat.
- You can hold up to 5 keys at once. At the cap (or with a full inventory), further kills drop loot on the ground the normal way.
- Everyone can see your keys. While you carry keys, your skull shows them — one to five keys hanging under it above your head. The more keys, the bigger the target on your back.
- Losing the key item doesn't lose the loot —
::lootkeyslists your keys and re-issues any missing handles.
Claiming — the Loot Chest
The Loot Chest sits just east of the Lumbridge market rows. Opening it shows your oldest key's sealed loot — the label at the top names the victim and how many keys you're holding. From there:
- Withdraw / Bank an item — right-click any item in the grid to take or bank just that stack
- Withdraw all to inventory — claim the whole key to your backpack
- Withdraw all to bank — send the whole key straight to your bank
- Item / Note — choose whether inventory withdrawals arrive as items or bank notes
When a key is emptied it crumbles to dust and the chest moves on to your next key.
The risk
Unclaimed keys are always lost on death. They occupy no keep slot, Protect Item doesn't save them, and it doesn't matter where you die — wilderness or not. When you fall, your keys are destroyed and their contents merge into your lost loot for your killer to take. This applies to PK bots too.
That's the whole tension of the system: every key you carry deep in the wild is a bounty on your head. Bank your winnings or gamble them on one more fight.
What counts
- Only wilderness player-vs-player kills mint keys (killable PK bots included — kill one in the wild and its kit seals into a key for you).
- Road highwaymen and other safe-zone bot kills drop loot normally on the ground.
