Barrows
Barrows is the classic crypt run, kept faithful to Old School: six burial mounds, six
brothers with their signature set effects, a hidden tunnel and a reward chest whose loot grows
with everything you killed on the way down.
Getting there
Open the teleport portal → Bosses → Barrows (or ::barrows). You land just north of the
mounds. Bring a spade, prayer potions and food — **your prayer drains the whole time you are
underground**.
The run
- Dig on a mound with your spade to drop into that brother's crypt.
- Search the sarcophagus. The brother climbs out beside you and attacks. Kill him, then take the staircase back up and dig the next mound.
- One crypt is the tunnel. Every run picks a different one at random; searching its sarcophagus lowers you into the tunnels instead of waking the brother — **but only once the other five brothers are dead**. Find it early and the crypt's wards hold it shut until you have dealt with the rest (a Fall of Varrock rule; Old School lets you drop in at any time). Down there the crypt vermin (rats, spiders, bloodworms, skeletons) count toward your reward too.
- Open the chest. The brother you didn't fight rises behind you. Kill him for full reward potential, then search the chest again to loot it — you are carried back to the surface.
Your run is remembered across logouts until you loot the chest.
The brothers
| Brother | Style | Set effect against you |
|---|---|---|
| Ahrim the Blighted | Magic (range 8) | Sometimes drains 5 Strength |
| Dharok the Wretched | Melee | Hits harder the lower his own health — finish him fast |
| Guthan the Infested | Melee | Heals himself by the damage he deals |
| Karil the Tainted | Ranged (range 8) | Sometimes saps a fifth of your Agility |
| Torag the Corrupted | Melee | Sometimes drains a fifth of your run energy |
| Verac the Defiled | Melee | Every fourth swing pierces protection prayers |
Protect from Melee holds four of them; swap to Missiles for Karil and Magic for Ahrim.
Loot
The chest uses the Old School reward rules:
- Reward potential = the combat levels of everything you killed (capped at 1000) plus 2 per brother — 1012 at most.
- You get one roll plus one per brother killed (seven at most).
- Each roll has a 1 in (450 − 58 × brothers) chance of one of the 24 Barrows pieces — 1/102 per roll with all six down. Otherwise it draws from coins, mind/chaos/death/blood runes, bolt racks, key halves and, at full potential, the dragon med helm.
- An elite clue scroll rolls separately (1/200, improving to 1/29 with all six brothers).
Every Barrows piece is a Collection Log entry. ::kc tracks your chest count and
per-brother kills, and every chest counts toward the boss kill milestones.
