Fall of Varrock

Hostile zones - extract or die

From the Fall of Varrock Wiki - Hostile ground turned loot grounds - gather from the loot spots and the supply drop, survive the garrison and the PKers, and slip out through a smugglers' trapdoor with your haul. First zone - the Wild Bandit Stronghold.

A hostile zone is a patch of the fallen world turned into loot grounds: gear and supplies spawn on the ground, a warned supply drop lands there about once an hour, a garrison holds it, PKers prowl it, and the only way out with your haul is to walk - or to take the smugglers' trapdoor. Get in, grab what you can, get out. Die and whoever killed you takes the lot (it's the wilderness - your loot goes into their loot key).

Nothing here is required for anything. It's a money-and-nerves loop for players who like the wild.

The Wild Bandit Stronghold

The first hostile zone sits on the Wild Bandit Camp in the deep north-west wilderness - the same camp the Rogue Knights Morvane, Halric and Nyx hold, and their maxer warband prowls. It is single combat and it is deep: ordinary teleports are blocked across most of it, which is exactly why the trapdoors matter.

You'll see "You enter the Wild Bandit Stronghold - rogue-held ground. Extract or die." on the way in.

DistrictWhat spawns there
The Tents (west)Sustain - sharks, monkfish, karambwans, prayer / restore / combat / ranging / stamina potions, a rare Saradomin brew
The Duty Free (east)The bandits' stolen armoury - small stacks of blood, death, chaos, nature and law runes, magic logs, rune arrows, rune and adamant weapons, rune armour pieces, black d'hide, mystic; rarely a rune platebody, a black d'hide body or a dragon dagger

Loot spots

Sixteen spots across the two districts each keep one item on the ground, rolled from the district's table. Take it and the spot rerolls something fresh about four minutes later - so the stronghold is worth revisiting and no two runs loot the same. The spots only tick while a player is nearby; you can't hoard them from a dead server.

The garrison

Eight bandits hold the stronghold whenever anyone is near, fighting one-on-one (it's a gauntlet, not a swarm) and respawning after a short while. Each one you kill drops chaos runes, lobsters or adamant arrows, rarely a rune scimitar. The named knights and the ambient PK bots are on top of that - every raider you kill pays the standard Rogue Knight Blood Money bounty - see the Rogue Knights page for the camp gate.

The supply drop

Roughly every hour the realm is warned: "A supply drop falls on the Wild Bandit Stronghold - the Tents - in ~5 minutes!" A star marks the district on the world map. When it lands, one prize sits on a random tile there - a dragon scimitar, dragon boots, a rune crossbow, a glory, a magic shortbow, a dragon med helm or longsword, a granite maul or a helm of Neitiznot - and the exact tile is marked. First to reach it takes it, the claim is broadcast, and then they have to make it out alive. Unclaimed drops lie there for about an hour.

Extracting

Two smugglers' trapdoors sit at the edges of the stronghold (south-west and north-east corners). Climb-down and you begin a 6-second channel:

  • Moving, taking damage or dying cancels it. Clear the tile first.
  • Teleblocked players can't use it - "A magical force stops you from slipping away."
  • When it completes you emerge in Edgeville, the wilderness staging town, and see what you got out with: the value of everything you now carry beyond what you walked in with. Hauls over 10,000 gp are broadcast to the realm.

The trapdoors mint nothing - the reward is the loot already in your pack. Walking out of the box on foot is always allowed too; nobody will announce it.

Your extractions are recorded (how many, your best haul, where) for future achievements.

Dying there

Normal wilderness rules: the killer takes your lost items as a loot key, you keep your three most valuable (none if skulled). The Rogue Knight camp gate, the rogue tally and everything else about the camp work as before.
