First Reclamation - the Southern Watch
First Reclamation is the first time the kingdom takes ground back. Every march before this one hit the enemy and went home. This time General Zo wants the southern approach to Fallen Varrock cleared - and then held: a permanent forward post at the old stone circle, in the shadow of the city walls.
It begins the moment The North is complete: General Zo has decided surviving is no longer enough.
The quest
- The brief - General Zo in the castle hub. Not Varrock - the stone circle on the southern road. Marches reach it now and again and always leave; this time the realm will use the ground it wins. He will not send soldiers to ground their commander hasn't seen, so the reconnaissance is yours.
- Walk north - no teleport for this one. Take the road toward Varrock: the roads are part of the lesson, and Rogue Knights, wandering enemies and the realm's own marches may all find you on the way. Three places to see, in order - the quest marks each one:
- The southern road - where the road reaches the lower end of the outskirts battlefield. Somewhere for soldiers to regroup before approaching Varrock.
- The stone circle - defensible ground overlooking the road. Step inside the ring.
- The gate approach - the road just beyond the circle, in front of Varrock's south gate. The enemy presence is obvious even from here; taking the city itself will take far more than Lumbridge has.
- Report - back to General Zo. "The position is usable. The city isn't." When you are ready, give the word.
- The Reclamation Column - Zo launches a public Grand March on the Varrock outskirts (
::marchrallies you to it). The whole realm hears the call and anyone may fight beside the column - it is the normal march system: sixteen Knights of Lumbridge against the marauders on the far approach, the Black Knights on the road and the risen dead nearest the gate. The column must win, and you must have done a real share of the fighting (at least 1%). You do not need the killing blow or a particular kill - just fight.
- Driven back? The quest stays live: speak with General Zo and he sends the column again as soon as the ground is clear. No wait, no reset - only the lost battle.
- Cleared without you? Same: Zo needs you on that road, not behind it.
- Establish the Southern Watch - when the line breaks ("The enemy line breaks. The southern approach to Varrock is clear."), return to the stone circle and Capture the standard at its heart. You raise Lumbridge's standard over the southern approach - the first forward position in twelve years.
- Debrief - General Zo. The roads around the Watch are still hostile and the dead will certainly return - "but now when they do, we have somewhere to meet them." Then the question he has been waiting to ask: how many soldiers are inside that city, and how many do we have? Quest complete.
The Southern Watch
The forward post is shared - it stands at the stone circle for everyone: the raised standard, three Knights of Lumbridge who hold the ring, and a Field Quartermaster who takes war supplies exactly like his colleagues in Lumbridge and the Mire. Completing the quest earns the personal part:
- Fast travel - the Southern Watch row in the portal's War tab, General Zo's "Send me to the Southern Watch.", or
::southernwatch. All three land inside the ring. - Varrock staging - the Watch sits on the
varrock_outskirtsmarch target, on the doorstep of Fallen Varrock's own content and the northern Rogue Knight camps.
The ground around it stays contested on purpose: the outskirts remain a repeatable march target, the enemy lines still stage straight through the circle when a march is on, and the garrison fights whatever comes. Lumbridge holds a foothold here, not a safe zone - the danger tag says Hostile for a reason.
Rewards
- 50 War Effort
- The Southern Watch - fast travel, the Field Quartermaster post, the garrison
- The normal spoils of the won Grand March, paid by the war itself
- The next main quest, A Kingdom Alone - because the debrief ends where it must: "We can't take Varrock." "Not alone."
Type ::quests for the Quest Journal; the quest also shows in the stock quest tab.
