Fall of Varrock

First March

From the Fall of Varrock Wiki - Main Story Quest 2. General Zo explains the March - the realm's free, scheduled warband - and sends the Knights of Lumbridge across the river at the goblin camp that probed the gate. Rally to the column, fight in the line until the camp breaks, and learn what the muster call is asking.

This morning the war came to Lumbridge. First March is where Lumbridge goes to the war. It begins on its own the moment The Last Free City is finished - Sergeant Damien has already told you who musters the columns.

The quest

  1. Report to General Zo - in the castle courtyard, beside Duke Horacio. He explains the March: every half hour, ten Knights of Lumbridge walk out of the courtyard and hit something that deserves it - a camp, a road, a rogue position - and anyone may march with them, no rank required. The goblins that probed the gate this morning came from a camp across the river. So the realm visits.
  2. Send the column - tell Zo you are ready and he gives the order: a public march on the goblin camp, announced to the whole realm. (Not ready? Eat something, sharpen something, and come back.) If the Knight-Captain's column is already out somewhere else, Zo points you at that one instead - a march is a march. He'll warn you if it is fighting on wilderness ground.
  3. Fight beside the Knights of Lumbridge - type ::march and you are sent to the column wherever it is. Stay in the battle line: the quest needs you to have a real share of the fighting, and the column must win. Ten knights alone get driven back more often than Zo likes to admit - when you don't march with them, they die.
  • Driven back? Speak with Zo and go again. Now you know what didn't work.
  • Won without you? Zo will tell you a march isn't something you watch from the courtyard. Go again - in the line this time.
  1. Report to General Zo - the field is won. For now: goblins breed faster than the realm marches. That is the March - free, frequent, and it never waits for anyone. You will hear the muster call every half hour for as long as you are a soldier of the realm, and now you know what it is asking. You don't have to answer every one. But the ones you skip, the knights walk alone.

Type ::firstmarch for your current objective, or open the Quest Journal with ::quests (the quest also shows in the stock quest tab).

What you learn

  • The March is the realm's public offensive: automatic, supply-free, every ~30 minutes, and open to everyone. ::march rallies you to it; ::marches shows the board of hostile ground the Knight-Captain strikes.
  • The realm pays its soldiers: everyone who fought shares the pooled spoils, scaled by how much of the fighting they did. See Marches and the reconquest.
  • Marches can fail. The knights need you more than you need them.

Rewards

1 Quest Point · 25 War Effort · your fighter's share of the march's spoils (auto-banked) · main campaign progression.

What comes next

The North. "Don't let it go to your head. There's something I want you to see in the north." See The Last Free City for where the story began, and the gameplay roadmap for everything around it.
