Old Wounds - the First Scar
The trolls are contained. The guns are rolling again. Asgarnia is ready to attack the Kinshra - so why has the Kinshra front gone quiet? Old Wounds is the campaign's intelligence quest, and the first time the story sends you into the Wilderness on purpose. It begins on its own the moment both A Matter of Trolls and The Guns of Asgarnia are complete: Sir Tiffy Cashien has requested your presence in Falador Park.
Before you go: the Wilderness
Everything before this taught you how hostile people behave - Rogue Knights on the roads, PK bots, the ladder. This quest crosses the line. The Dark Warriors' Fortress and the First Scar are in the real Wilderness, north of the Edgeville ditch, where other players can attack you. Nothing is instanced, nothing is protected, and the quest does not switch PvP off around you. That is the point.
- Both objectives sit in the lower Wilderness: the fortress at about level 14, the First Scar at level 9. No deep-wild death march.
- Take only what you're prepared to lose. The quest documents are untradeable and always kept on death; everything else follows the normal death rules.
- No kill is required anywhere. The Dark Warriors in the fortress are ordinary enemies - fight through them, avoid them, or tank them.
- Quickest route: an amulet of glory to Edgeville, then north over the ditch and west along the wall. The fortress is the square keep with the spear walls; the ruined ring is on open ground south-east of it.
The quest
- Sir Tiffy Cashien - his bench in Falador Park, east of the White Knights' Castle. The Kinshra front hasn't collapsed, but something has changed: small groups, officers, couriers - going north, and not coming back. He has tracked them to the Dark Warriors' Fortress. He does not know why. He prefers the phrase "not yet". Then the warning: beyond the ditch, other adventurers do not follow rules. He is sending you there alone - "technically, discreetly".
- The Dark Warriors' Fortress - enter the keep. Fresh Kinshra tracks, a pennant on a spear wall, ration crates that are not the fortress's own. Search the crate in the hall (the one by the south wall, next to the stacked crates). Under the straw: the Kinshra Field Orders. Read them - the first half is dry and very useful (reserves, artillery, supply route); the second half is not dry at all: survey detachments, Temple Knight records to be delivered unopened, a site designated FIRST SCAR, and searches "concerning Lucien" authorised by Lord Daquarius personally.
- Lord Daquarius - "You might as well finish reading it." The Kinshra commander is standing behind you. He is not here to fight, and he is not stupid: he does not know what the First Scar is either, and he says as much. Before Varrock fell the Temple Knights investigated disturbances in the Wilderness; one was buried so thoroughly that even Tiffy's people have forgotten it, and Lucien's name is in what survives. Then he lets you leave. (Only you can see him. If you close the conversation early, read the orders again from your pack while you are still in the fortress and it replays.)
- Back to Sir Tiffy - he reads the military half and smiles. He reads the second half and stops smiling. Ask him who Lucien was ("A Mahjarrat." "Like Zemouregal?" "Yes. Different ambitions. Equally unpleasant consequences."). Then the thing that should land: there were old Wilderness reports from operations involving Lucien, and they were classified - from the Temple Knights themselves. He digs out a reference: Survey Site Seven. Southern Wilderness. Field designation: First Scar. He keeps the orders.
- The First Scar - the ring of ruined pillars on open ground south-east of the fortress. It does not look like much; the name is Temple Knight terminology, not a crater. Three things to look at, in order - the quest marks each one:
- the standing stones on the south side: discoloured, but no sign of ordinary fire;
- the mass of rock at the centre: warped rather than broken. What happened here?
- the rubble on the north-west side: an old Temple Knight field cache, and inside it the Damaged Temple Knight Report.
- Read the report - it opens itself when you find it (or read it from your pack). No conventional magical source. Voices where no persons were present. Instruments failed. Stone deformed in a way inconsistent with heat or impact. Similar disturbances noted during operations concerning Lucien. Further investigation recommended. Recommendation denied. Site sealed. Records restricted. Something about it sounds disturbingly like the accounts of the Fall of Varrock.
- Daquarius again - "So it exists." He followed the same twelve-year-old trail, and you got here first. Does the report name a cause? No. "Then we're both still ignorant." Zemouregal attacked Varrock and Arrav led his dead - everyone knows that - but this happened before either of them reached the city. He turns away: the question you should be asking is why someone wanted everyone to stop.
- Return to Sir Tiffy - "Oh dear." Is it the same thing that happened at Varrock? He doesn't know, and he says so. The authorisation code on the denial has been removed; he intends to find out who - and, unfortunately, so does Daquarius. Then the good news: Daquarius has been pulling experienced troops off the Falador front for these searches, and his orders identify his remaining reserves. "For twelve years, we've attacked the Kinshra where they were strongest. Now we know where they aren't." Quest complete. He wants Sir Amik to attack; he intends to stand somewhere comfortably behind him.

Asgarnia - BREACH
Completing Old Wounds fills in the last line of the campaign:
| Northern Frontier | SECURED (A Matter of Trolls) |
| Artillery Production | RESTORED (The Guns of Asgarnia) |
| Kinshra Intelligence | SECURED |
| The First Scar | DISCOVERED |
| BREACH | READY - speak with Sir Amik Varze when you are ready to begin the offensive |
That offensive is The White Wall, Asgarnia's finale.
What you learn
- The Kinshra are not only fighting Falador. Their commander is spending soldiers on an old mystery he does not understand - and he is willing to say so to an enemy agent, because he would rather Sir Tiffy paid attention than not.
- Lord Daquarius is the enemy. He commands the army at Falador's gate. He is also not stupid, and he may understand that whatever destroyed Varrock is bigger than Asgarnia's civil war. You will meet him again.
- The accepted history has not changed: Zemouregal attacked, Arrav led the dead, Varrock fell. Old Wounds adds exactly one fact - whatever happened at Varrock may not have begun at Varrock. Something strange happened at the First Scar before the Fall, and someone buried the investigation. Who, and why, is a question for the Wilderness campaign.
The Damaged Temple Knight Report
The report is yours to keep - Tiffy has copied every word and would rather the original were somewhere the Kinshra don't think to look. It is untradeable, always kept on death, and you can read it from your pack whenever you want: the second entry in your lore journal, after The North's Weathered Varrock Dispatch. Lose it anyway and the cache under the rubble held more than one copy.
Rewards
