Fall of Varrock

The North

From the Fall of Varrock Wiki - Main Story Quest 3. General Zo sends you to Edgeville to see what the Fall of Varrock did to the kingdom - find Oziach, stand at the Wilderness line where Rogue Knights give way to other players, and bring back the last dispatch Varrock ever sent.

You have seen Lumbridge attacked and stood with its Knights. The North is where you find out what the war is actually about. It begins on its own the moment First March is finished - General Zo has something he wants you to see, and it is not a battlefield.

The quest

  1. Speak to General Zo - in the castle courtyard beside Duke Horacio. "Perspective," he says. Go to Edgeville, look at what remains between Lumbridge and Varrock, and come back and tell him what you think the realm is fighting for.
  2. Travel to Edgeville - any way you like. The roads north run through Rogue Knight country; they may come for you, and you are welcome to fight or run - no kill is required. An amulet of glory teleports you straight into town. Edgeville itself is safe.
  3. Find someone who remembers the Fall - Oziach, in his hut at the north-west edge of town, exactly where he has always been. He was here before Varrock fell, while it fell, and every miserable year since. He explains what the Fall did to the north: the patrols stopped, the roads emptied, and every thug with a sword decided he was a warlord. The Rogue Knights are not Zemouregal's army - they are what happens when nobody stops them.
  4. Inspect the Wilderness boundary - walk to the ditch at the top of town. You do not have to cross it. South of the line, Rogue Knights are the danger; beyond it, other players are too. Everything you learn fighting the knights matters more on the other side.
  5. Return to Oziach - he tells you what Edgeville was like when the refugees came through, then digs out the Weathered Varrock Dispatch: the last official message he ever received from Varrock, twelve years old. Read it. Ask him about Zemouregal, Arrav, or why he stayed, if you like.
  6. Take the dispatch to General Zo - he reads it and hands it back. What did you see? Varrock did not just lose a battle: when it fell, everything around it started falling apart. A March wins a battlefield; what Zo wants next is a position - something between Lumbridge and the north that belongs to the realm when the fighting stops.

Type ::north for your current objective, or open the Quest Journal with ::quests (the quest also shows in the stock quest tab).

The Weathered Varrock Dispatch

The dispatch is yours to keep. It is untradeable, it is always kept on death, and you can read it from your pack whenever you want - it is the first entry in your lore journal. Lose it anyway and Oziach, grumbling, will give you the copy he made the day it arrived.

What you learn

  • Varrock's fall broke more than a city: Misthalin lost its roads, its patrols and its control of the north.
  • Edgeville is the northern settlement that survived - and the realm's PKing hub: the last bank before the ditch, where players gear up and cross into the Wilderness to fight each other.
  • Rogue Knights are a consequence of the collapse of authority, not part of Zemouregal's host. They teach you how a person fights you; the Wilderness is where a person actually will.
  • The accepted story of the Fall: Zemouregal's undead, Arrav seen among them, and a last dispatch that read "Varrock will hold."
